Our  Program

Pacific Opera is proud to present its Young Artist Program through the delivery of Pocket Operas. A brain child of Co-Artistic Director, Peter Coleman-Wright AO, Pocket Operas are shortened adaptations of canonical works. They provide time poor audiences engaging operatic experiences in a reinvigorated and exciting form, but most importantly they are the perfect vehicle for training young singers.

PO guarantees its Young Artists (YAPS) the opportunity to learn and study one or two operatic roles in their entirety. YAPs will be guided through the process of how to learn a role with a strong focus on sung lyric diction, musicality, character development and stagecraft skills. Large portions of these roles will then be performed in our Pocket Opera selections. Artists will be guaranteed at least one performance of each Pocket Opera where industry professionals including agents, casting directors, conductors and other respected professionals will be invited.

Our long-standing relationship with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra provides our artists with valuable opportunities to perform regularly with a well-established orchestra, and our singers have the chance to be mentored by some of Australia's greatest artists both in concert repertoire and Pocket Operas.
