Young Critics Award
If you’re aged between 16 and 25, The Cumberland Newspapers group and Pacific Opera offers you the opportunity to become an art critic by participating in the annual Pacific Opera Young Critics Award.
How to get involved? Register your interest when the competition is announced in the newspaper and through our website. Then you attend the opening night of Pacific Opera’s annual production for free at Glen Street Theatre, Belrose and you write a 400 word review of the show.
The best review selected by a panel of independent judges will be published in your local community News Ltd newspaper as well as in the Mosman Daily, Manly Daily and North Shore Times. You will also get a $200 cash prize and a Golden pass for 4 people for Pacific Opera's 2011 season.
2010 Young Critics Award now open! Come and review an opera!!
Pacific Opera will invite the first 25 registered people to the opening night of its upcoming production of ‘Hansel & Gretel' on Friday 30th July at 8pm at Glen Street Theatre. You will get a ticket for yourself plus a guest so bring a friend.
Competitors will then write a review of the production (not exceeding 400 words) which must be lodged with sue@pacificopera.com.au by 9:00am on Monday 2nd August. Pacific Opera Tel: 02 9252 7547
A panel of 3 independent judges will assess the reviews based on the ability to report in an engaging and knowledgeable way, and the ability to hold a substantiated critical opinion as well as the intrinsic literary merit of the pieces.

2009 Winner announced!
Congratulations to Mary Bokey the winner of the 2009 Pacific Opera Young Critics Award. Mary, who is 15 years old and lives in Mittagong, wins a $200 cash prize and her review will be published in the Mosman Daily, The Manly Daily and The North Shore Times. The judges were Cumberland-Courier Newspapers’ freelance opera reviewer Melissa Lesnie with Samuel Webster and David Crooks.
